Summary: Everyone wants to test out Yu's kissing skills.
Author's notes: This is a crosspost from AO3 and ffnet. I dreamed of this scenario one morning, so I decided to write it. I didn't tag relationships since it's not particularly shippy (though my souyo bias is obvious ahaha)

Sitting at the long table at the Junes food court, surrounded by his friends on the Investigation Team (minus Teddie, who was working), Yu began to zone out. That happened often when they were finished discussing the case for the day. Naturally the topic had drifted to more mundane things, like upcoming exams and gossip about classmates. By his nature, Yu had a lot of trouble keeping up after he'd exhausted his set amount of group-based social interaction for the day. It wasn't usually a problem, but...

"I bet Senpai is great at kissing!"

The topic had turned to him. Yu did his best to try and remember what they'd all been saying just seconds ago. Something about someone's first kiss going bad...?

He opened his mouth to speak, but he didn't need to. Yosuke was already answering.

"Yeah, great at kissing cats," Yosuke said with a snort.

"And you're no good," Rise continued. "I bet you use too much tongue. 'The windmill' is not a kissing technique."

"Hey! I've kissed plenty of girls back in the city!"

"Once and never again, prob'ly," Kanji said.

Yu sighed to himself and settled back down as they bickered. Rarely did they really need his input, and that was just the way he liked it. Leave him out of these debates, thank you very much!

"No boy's ever gotten close enough to kiss Yukiko," Chie said. "As for me, umm... I'm not telling!"

"As if anyone wanted to know," Yosuke said sourly, still upset at Rise's teasing.

"I would like to," Naoto said.

"Like to what, Naoto-kun?" Rise asked. "Know about all of our kissing history, or what it's like to kiss someone?"

Naoto hummed. "This is all truly fascinating..."

"You didn't answer my question!"

Yu felt peaceful as his friends continued talking around him. There was nowhere else he wanted to be right now. Well, maybe at the flood plain, kissing a cat...

Rise stood up all of a sudden. "I think we'd all like to know..." she said dramatically, "what it's like to kiss Senpai!"

Only an idol could pull off a move like that. Now everyone was looking at Yu, who redacted his last thought. Being put on the spot made this the last place he wanted to be.

Tentatively, Yu asked, "Me?"

"No, that old guy behind you eating a Topsicle," Rise said.

Yu looked behind him. There wasn't anyone there. She was being sarcastic. He looked back at the team sheepishly.

"I don't know," Chie said. "His lips look kind of thin and dry."

"It's a struggle most boys have," Rise said, "but I know for a fact that Senpai uses chapstick! They should be nice and smooth."

"I would like to see what all the fuss is about," Yukiko said. "Kissing boys."

"Senpai is the man," Kanji said thoughtfully. "You know he'd take it slow, y'know? Respect your boundaries an' all that."

"I stand by my kissing cats comment," Yosuke said, crossing his arms.

"Then it's settled," Rise said. "We'll all kiss Senpai and see what it's like!"

Yu blinked several times. He opened his mouth to say something, thought better of it and closed it, then tried again and failed again. He looked at Yosuke pleadingly, but his partner was purposely avoiding his eyes. Yu felt his stomach twist at the betrayal, but didn't that mean Yosuke was okay with this...? Everyone else, too, was staring off into space, as if imagining what it would be like to kiss him.

It was flattering, now that he thought about it, and as Rise began to make plans to make it happen, he decided that he didn't mind. He loved his friends, after all, and sharing a few kisses between them would hopefully be a nice way to show it.

Apparently the plan was here and now. Before Yu knew it, everyone had left the food court except Yukiko, who had relocated to sit next to him. She was apparently first in Rise's arbitrarily-determined order.

Yu watched her for a moment. Yukiko was a very beautiful young woman. It was no surprise that so many boys kept trying to ask her out. He suspected that none of them would ever see her like this. The foxy look on her face, while uniquely Yukiko, had a hint of Rise in it.

She really did want to kiss him. He smiled at her, a little hopelessly, because he hadn't been able to admit to everyone that he hadn't kissed anyone in his whole life.

Oh well, it couldn't be too hard, right? He licked his lips in preparation. Before he could lean in, however, she confided that she actually had kissed a boy before. Yu's open-mouthed stare caused her to further explain that it had happened in middle school.

"He was always so nice to me," Yukiko said. "Before I knew it, I'd developed something of a crush on him."

"Oh?" Yu prompted, curious now. It didn't seem like the Yukiko he knew.

"Oh yes," Yukiko said. "Unfortunately when we were finally alone, he was more interested in, well..."

She glanced down demurely and indicated her chest.

"Unfortunate," Yu said. Yukiko deserved better.

"Very," she agreed. "I didn't mind at first—awkward fumbling is to be expected, after all. But when the focus became them instead of me, I pushed him away too roughly. He left, and that's where I earned the reputation for that ridiculous challenge."

Yu had always thought the reputation had been earned through her simply being too busy for romance, making her seem cold and indifferent towards boys. The truth was far sadder than that.

"I'm sorry," he said.

Yukiko shrugged. "I have Chie now, so..."

He paused. "Then... Do you really want this?"

She smiled. Her eyes glinted in a fiery way that made him blush.

So he kissed her. It was just a soft kiss on the lips that didn't linger overlong. It seemed appropriate for her, and she seemed happy with it, so he was happy too.

That was one down.

Chie was next. She sat down next to Yu, but she didn't seem to want to be there. She blushed and stammered and declared how ridiculous this whole thing was... but Yu didn't remember her protesting at all when the idea had started.

"We don't have to do this," Yu told her.

"Uh, yeah, we do," she said, like it was totally obvious. "I'm not going to be the only one out!"

Yu hummed. "You're sure Yosuke will go through with it?"

That got her laughing, much harder than he'd ever seen her laugh, though it wasn't quite at Yukiko's level. His question hadn't even been a joke.

"Ugh," she said, smiling at him. "Let's just do it."

"All right," he said, and he leaned in towards her.

She leaned away on instinct. Then she realized what she was doing and leaned back in. There was an awkward moment in which they just looked at each other, and then their lips met. Chie made a funny noise at first, and then she relaxed into the kiss.

The kiss lingered, and Yu let it. Chie was a good person too, and deserved, well... something, anyway, his mind was starting to blank out as he realized she didn't taste like the meat gum he'd expected, but strongly like mint.

Overpoweringly like mint, in fact. He had to draw back once the taste and smell hit him full force. Had she downed a whole liter of mouthwash to prepare for this?

As she popped a meat gum into her mouth right after the kiss, he realized that's exactly what had happened.

Yu was apprehensive as Rise sauntered towards him like a shark having got a whiff of blood. He sighed quietly in resignation as she took her seat next to him. Then he waited, expecting her to say something or immediately initiate. At least hang onto his arm like she often did.

She didn't, though, and in fact was avoiding his eyes, instead focusing on her fidgeting fingers. She had very pretty nails, alternating shades of pink and purple.

He watched her closely, expectantly, because this was Rise, who'd always thought the world of him. And this had been her idea in the first place.

He realized, after the moment dragged on, that she was scared.

He wasn't sure what of. Perhaps of the reality being different from her fantasies. A legitimate fear, since with his lack of experience, this kiss was bound to be extremely disappointing. But maybe that was a good thing, to have her expectations tempered.

Before she could worry overlong, then, he gently took her hand. Though startled by the sudden contact, she didn't pull her hand away. He brought it to his lips and gave it a little kiss, right on the back of it.

Then he let her hand go. Dazed, she drew it back, staring at where he'd pressed the kiss. Slowly, mechanically, she moved her hand closer to her face. Then, she kissed that spot too.

He smiled at her, and then her eyes caught his own. Relief washed over her, and with a quiet smile, she left the food court with more spring in her step than she'd entered with.

Kanji arrived next, looking mostly unconcerned with the whole situation, which Yu appreciated. Kanji's sexuality was a topic he was not yet prepared to tackle, but if they could kiss without any hangups, well, then he was doing far better than others he could name on the Investigation Team.

But Kanji didn't sit down, even after Yu invited him to. Instead, he scratched his head. "See," Kanji said. "The thing is, you got nothin' to prove to me, Senpai."

"Thanks," Yu said, with a hint of a question.

"And kissin'... it ain't all that intimate to me. I mean, my Ma still makes me kiss her sometimes."

Yu frowned. "You want to do something more than kiss?"

"Yeah!" Kanji declared. "Uh, I mean, I'd rather uh... hug."

Kanji was still furiously scratching his head, his face a brilliant shade of pink that almost made Yu laugh.

Instead, Yu opened his arms wide. Grinning, Kanji moved right into them. Yu wrapped his arms around him. Kanji did the same in return, and they shared a tender embrace. It was nice and tight, just the way Yu liked it.

Just the way Kanji liked it too, as it turned out, because when the hug ended, Kanji gave Yu a warm kiss. It was chaste, but nice, almost like kissing a pet... though Yu had the impression he was the cat in this situation.

To Yu's surprise, Teddie was next. It turned out that during his work break, he'd caught the girls all gathered together and learned what was going on. Being Teddie, of course he wanted in on it.

Yu mentally shrugged and gave the bear a simple peck on the cheek.

And that was all Teddie needed. He danced around afterwards, enthusiastically proclaiming to the empty food court how he'd finally scored before racing towards the elevator, presumably to tell everyone in the store the incredible news. Yu shook his head wryly as he watched him go.

Yu knew Naoto's involvement in all of this was only for the sake of social experiment. Yu didn't mind, since it had pretty much become one by now. It was almost too bad Yu wasn't going to file a report on his experiences. It was surely some insightful information on the team, after all, but Yu respected his friends too much to do that. Naoto did too, and wouldn't expect him to do anything like that anyway.

So when Naoto leaned in, Yu responded with a soft kiss. It lasted a little longer than he expected, but it was Naoto who drew away first. The fond smile on the detective's face afterward let him know that it was exactly what had been expected of him, and he couldn't help but smile in return.

Last (but not least) was Yosuke. Yu expected him to be a bit, well, tsundere about it, kind of like how Chie had been, except with a lot more comments along the lines of "this isn't weird, is it?" and "but you're a dude!"

So Yu was totally surprised to find Yosuke calmly sitting next to him like it was perfectly normal to expect a kiss from your best bro-friend. He must've done his freaking out earlier when Yu had been kissing everyone else. The only things betraying his nervousness was how his leg kept bouncing impatiently, like he wanted to get on with it, to get it over and done with, and the way he kept running his fingers through his hair.

Yu obliged, giving him a quick peck on his lips and then pulling away.

Yosuke was frowning after that. "Is that all?" he said. "You don't have to treat me like glass just because I'm a guy. I want you to kiss me like one of the girls."

That's exactly how I kissed the girls, Yu almost said, but he knew Yosuke wouldn't believe him. Somehow, he had it in his head that Yu was some sort of ladies' man. It had something to do with the King's Game, or something, Yu didn't really know or understand it. He'd kind of blocked that night out of his memory.

Regardless, that meant Yosuke was expecting more, so...

So Yu gave him more. He pressed their mouths together again and moved his lips against Yosuke's in a way that left them both breathless afterwards. Kissing like this, as it turned out, wasn't as hard he'd thought.

"D-d-dude," Yosuke stammered when he drew back.

Yu smiled sweetly at him. He'd absolutely asked for it.

Once everyone had been kissed, they all gathered around Yu at the food court again. There was an air of awkwardness, broken by Rise speaking up.

"So, Senpai," she said. "Let's cut to the chase. Which one of us was the best kisser?"

Yu hunched his shoulders in a defensive posture. There was no safe answer to that question!

"Hey!" said Chie. "I thought this was about us seeing if he was any good. That's what this was about, right guys? Am I misremembering here?"

"Well, yeah!" Rise said. "We already knew Senpai was going to be superb. Like a top sirloin, you know?"

"Who's kissing steak!?"

Rise sighed. "I was trying to use an analogy that fits you. I guess it didn't work. But anyway," she hurried along, "We all got what we were expecting, right?"

"Maybe more than that," Yosuke murmured. When they looked at him, he pretended he hadn't said anything.

"Damn right," Kanji said.

"It was very nice," Yukiko agreed.

Rise turned to Yu again. "Well, Senpai? How did you like it? And more importantly... who's the best kisser?"

"It was pretty fun," Yu said mildly. "As for the best kisser, well... that should be obvious. The one that made me smile the most after."

They all looked at him, thinking. Wondering, probably, if the smile they received had been 'the most.'

Before they could press him for more clarification or ask him to demonstrate a smile, he left the food court. They could fight it out among themselves. He'd done enough for them today.

Besides, he had cats to kiss.

Summary: Detective Dojima's unusual day.
Author's notes: This is a crosspost from AO3 and ffnet. It was written for Souyoweek2019 on tumblr.

For once in a very long time, Dojima was home early from work. So early, in fact, that Nanako was not yet home from school. He looked forward to surprising her when she got home. Her eyes would get so big and then she'd smile and cheer and... His heart welled up with fatherly pride. Maybe he'd even take her to Junes!

His dreams were hopelessly dashed when the dispatcher called him out of nowhere. He'd barely just sat down on the couch, hadn't even turned the TV on yet. He should've put his phone on silent, but honestly he didn't know how. These newfangled smartphones...

"Chief," the dispatcher said. "Sorry to bother you, but Ishida just called."

Dojima rubbed his face along the grain of his stubble. "Really? What's the old bat want this time. And don't call me Chief."

Old lady Ishida called the precinct pretty much every day to complain about something minor. A jay walker, for example, long after the jay walker had already crossed the street. It wasn't like the police could do anything when the "criminal" was already long gone...

Apparently today there were some teens "being lewd" in the park.

"Sorry Chief, but you're closest to that area..."

Dojima heaved a huge sigh and pulled himself off his couch. On the bright side, the park was only a few minutes away by foot, and it was a beautiful autumn day, breezy but not chill. If he could take care of this quickly, maybe he could come back here with Nanako and they could enjoy a nature walk.

At a glance, there wasn't anything going on in the park. An old man was walking a dog, and there was someone fishing on the bridge over the river. Dojima looked around further, grumbling to himself about the waste of his time. They really needed to stop answering old lady Ishida's petty calls. She'd probably just overheard a teen trip over a branch and say a bad word. That sounded about right.

But since he was here, he figured he'd better be thorough and check out the whole park. He followed the nature train, which wound around the river and through a wooded area. While walking on the path, he spied a few tatsuhime ladybugs crawling around on a tree branch. If only Nanako was here, he thought. She'd have a blast.

A branch in the path led to a secluded area with a bench. Before stepping out into this area, Dojima noticed the bench was occupied by two people. He couldn't get a good view of the second person from this angle, but the closer person was totally his nephew, Yu. There was no mistaking that distinct gray hair or that school uniform he was wearing.

And, well... He was totally kissing the other person. Dojima could hear the soft murmur of encouragement even from his vantage point.

Dojima felt a twinge of embarrassment for having stumbled upon them like this. This spot was rather well known as a place for lovers because of how secluded it was. Old lady Ishida would've known that. She couldn't be complaining about this. Privacy was so hard to come by in Japan, so let the kids have their fun, Dojima thought. These two were just kissing after all, and there wasn't any sign that it'd get out of hand. Despite Dojima's suspicions about Yu regarding his involvement in the murder case, he seemed like a good and proper kid.

Then again, even a good and proper kid could get carried away when it came to girls. Dojima considered making his presence known to give them a little lecture, but then Yu shifted in his seat and Dojima got a view of the girl.

And let out a strangled squeal, because it wasn't a girl at all, it was that Hanamura boy and... Wow, they were really kissing.

Huh.

He'd known Yu was weird, but he hadn't thought it was, well, like this. A lot of things made sense now.

The two boys stopped kissing for a moment to gaze into each other's eyes.

Then Dojima heard the softest, "I love you..." and he couldn't stick around any longer. As quietly as he could manage he about-faced and walked away.

Hanamura, huh. Yu could do so much better, and yet, it sounded about right. Even he had noticed that they were always together. He remembered the incident where they'd been arrested for playing with swords at Junes, and shook his head.

Then he thought of old lady Ishida again. Maybe the two boys were exactly what she'd called about. Kissing was hardly lewd, but...

But they were two boys. It clicked in his mind. That's why Ishida had reported it.

The more Dojima thought about it, the more annoyed he became. She couldn't leave well enough alone, could she? They weren't hurting anyone.

He called the dispatcher and told them there was no incident to report, and to ignore Ishida's calls for the rest of the day.

And then he headed back home to wait for Nanako.

However, he decided not to take to take her on a nature walk.

[Summary: An AU for the Culture Festival event]

It was the first day of Yasogami High's Culture Festival. Yosuke trudged up the stairs to the second floor. He didn't want to take part in some stupid group date cafe, and he was pretty sure no one else did either. Why'd everyone in class vote for that?

At the top of the stairs, though, he stopped and stared, because an unbelievably long queue of fellow students and other festival-goers was lined up outside his classroom. There was Saki-senpai's little brother, and Hanako Ohtani, and that girl who liked being on the roof, and that one old lady in her mourning garb, and...

Yosuke was speechless for a long moment. "W-wait," he finally said. "Are you all here for the group date cafe?"

"What group date cafe?" asked Kou, who was standing in the line. "That doesn't sound like fun at all."

"We're not doing a group date thing," Chie said. She wasn't in line. By the big 'Ask me anything!' sticker on her blouse, she was part of the festival staff, helping visitors find their way around the school. "Come on, Yosuke, you were there when we made the decision in class." She rolled her eyes. "Of course you weren't listening."

"I don't remember," Yosuke admitted. "But I can't say I'm all that disappointed we aren't doing that, even if it was my idea and all."

Kou laughed. "That sounds like one of your ideas."

Yosuke made a face, then asked, "So what are we doing? This hall is more happening than Junes on a sales day."

"Our class is doing a kissing booth, you dork," said Chie.

"What, really?" Yosuke blinked in surprise. Then he narrowed his eyes at Kou. "Wait, you wanna kiss someone other than—oof!"

Kou nudged him hard in the ribs. "Ahaha, no," he said, eyeing Chie with a vaguely panicked expression. "But no one can resist the guy they got at the booth."

"'Guy'?" Yosuke's expression flattened. "It's not Teddie, is it? I mean, he's always charming people at the store."

"Guess again," said Chie.

"It can't be our class rep. I mean, he's got the glasses going for him, but that's not a wide enough appeal."

"One more try."

Yosuke's crossed his arms and thought. Anyone watching him could pinpoint the exact moment the truth dawned on him. "N-no way," he stuttered. "Yu?!"

Chie's toothy grin told him he was right on the money.

"Why don't you get in line, too?" Kou said. "There's room for one more. Or five," he added, as a few more students lined up behind him.

"I don't want to kiss Yu!"

Chie tilted her head. "Well... you're in the minority here."

Bewildered, Yosuke glanced down the long line once more. Some of the students weren't even from Yasogami. Wait, was that a cat!?

"Huh," he said.

He thought of how he'd always wanted his first kiss to be something special under the moonlight. His tentative plan to fake a yawn and stretch his arm out and lazily put it around his girlfriend's shoulders, and then he'd move in and they'd gaze into each others' eyes and...

A kissing booth wasn't romantic at all. Yosuke wondered how many people were going to ruin their first kiss with Yu like this. A lot, by the looks of it. Heck, even Nanako-chan was in line—she waved at him when she noticed him looking—but she was just a little kid so it didn't mean anything.

"You wanna be the only guy who hasn't kissed Yu?" Kou asked.

Yosuke scowled. "Come on, don't make it weird."

"I, for one, am getting a kiss," Kou said.

The line moved then, and Kou moved with it, putting him inside the classroom. Yosuke stared after him, still frowning.

He remembered all the times Yu had listened to him without judgement. How he'd told off those annoying girls at Junes on his behalf, and how he'd always looked after him in the TV World. And when he thought about it, well, Yu did have a really cute smile.

They were best friends, and the truth was that Yu was important to him.

Avoiding everyone's eyes, Yosuke got in line. He could feel Chie sneering at him, but fortunately, she was soon distracted by a student asking for directions to a different event.

Despite its length, the line moved quickly, and soon enough he was inside the classroom, where the line looped around a few desks. He could see the kissing booth situated at the far end, next to the chalkboard. A thick red curtain hung around the front of the booth to allow some privacy. Yosuke appreciated that. He knew he wouldn't want an audience.

One by one, like a production line, people went behind the curtain to get their kiss and left with wistful smiles on their faces. It couldn't be much of a kiss, Yosuke figured, since it happened so quickly. It'd just be in and out. No need to get all nervous about this. Heck, Yu'd probably just kiss his cheek and that'd be it.

Yeah, there's nothing to worry about, Yosuke thought as the line continued to move. It was just a kiss from Yu. His best friend in the whole world. Besides, he was just one person in this big crowd. No one could judge him for being here. He could just point out that they were in line too. And he knew Yu. Yu wouldn't think anything—

"Next?" Yu's voice came from behind the curtain.

Startled, Yosuke glanced around before realizing 1) that he was next and 2) that Yu had called "Next" for him more than once.

With the combined strength of all the glares of everyone in line behind him hitting him full force, Yosuke couldn't hesitate any longer. He hustled around the curtain. Standing there resting his arms on the booth's counter and looking totally relaxed, was Yu.

Totally relaxed only for a second, anyway, because he was startled most ungracefully when he saw Yosuke approach. Yosuke wondered if he was okay, but within seconds Yu had composed himself. "Yosuke," he said, with a somewhat glassy smile as if he hadn't nearly just fallen over. "I didn't expect to see you."

Yosuke waved a hand. "Uh, w-well, it was Chie's idea to come here," he claimed. "And I gotta support our class, you know?"

"Oh," Yu said. "Of course. Umm, okay, then... come closer."

Yosuke nodded, determined to get this over with and move on. He stepped closer and closed his eyes and waited.

Nothing happened.

He opened his eyes. Yu was simply looking at him. Spacing out, maybe? No, it wasn't exactly looking, more like gazing at him in a way that reminded him of a puppy.

"Yu?" Yosuke asked.

Yu blinked back to himself. "Oh. Sorry. Umm, here."

He leaned over the booth's counter and gently set one hand behind Yosuke's head, pulling him a little closer. With the other hand he cupped Yosuke's face. Despite himself, Yosuke's heart began to beat faster. This was closer than he'd ever been to his best friend. His cologne was strong, maybe he'd put it on extra thick today. As for himself, Yosuke hoped he didn't smell as nervous as he suddenly felt.

He closed his eyes, because this would be too embarrassing to watch. Yu's presence drew closer. Warm breath played over his face, building anticipation, and then...

Yu was kissing him. It really was just lips on lips, a simple kiss. Yosuke sighed softly and prepared to draw back as the kiss ended.

Except it didn't end. Yu's soft lips lingered. Then his tongue darted over Yosuke's lips. Confused, Yosuke opened his mouth, and Yu apparently took this as a sign.

The kiss deepened.

Yosuke's alarmed sound was cut short by the realization that this felt good. Yu's hand, steadying the back of his head, was gentle as it threaded fingers into his hair. Yu murmured softly into his mouth, and Yosuke found himself murmuring back. He tasted faintly of mint.

When they finally parted, all Yosuke could do was stare and lick his lips. Yu was staring back at him, too, an odd look on his face that Yosuke didn't recognize.

Yu broke the gaze first. "You should probably go," he said.

"H-huh..." Yosuke managed. Slowly, he remembered where he was. At the Culture Festival, right. He was holding up the line. Other people wanted to kiss Yu, too.

And with a kiss like that, he couldn't blame them.

"R-right," he said. "Uh..."

Yu's eyes were already looking past him, as if he could see around the curtain to the next person in line.

Yosuke stepped away, unsure of what he was feeling. On his way out of the classroom, he didn't notice how the next person in line kept checking his watch.

In a daze, he wandered around the Culture Festival, but didn't find anything he wanted to do. After passing a takoyaki stand, he thought of eating, but he wasn't hungry. The taste of mint was still there in his mouth, making him think of how it'd got there, how it had been passed to him by Yu's tongue. He didn't want to wash it away just yet.

Eventually he ended up on the roof, where some of the Investigation Team were gathered: Rise, Yukiko, Kanji, and Naoto. Chie was absent, probably still helping out somewhere.

Rise sent him a playful look as he sat down to join them. "Soooooooo," she trilled. "How was it, Yosuke-senpai? Don't deny it, Chie-senpai told me you went for it."

Yosuke crossed his arms and tried to shrug nonchalantly.

"Yeah," Rise agreed with a nod. "I wish it'd been more than just a peck. Senpai's lips felt like they could do so much more."

"I must admit I'm a little disappointed too," Yukiko said.

"Wait," Yosuke said. "It wasn't just a..."

"Still," Rise said, "I thought you wouldn't go for it, Yosuke-senpai. Way to go! You've matured so much since I've known you. Don't worry, a tiny peck like that isn't weird."

A... peck?

"It wasn't..." Yosuke shook his head and caught Kanji's eyes. "Wait, did you do it too? The kissing booth?"

"Uh, yeah?" Kanji replied. "Senpai's the man. He taught me a lot, y'know. 'Course I gotta support him."

"Support him with your lips?" Yosuke's voice grew louder as he began to panic. "Wh-what kind of kiss was it?!"

Kanji's brow knit together. "Dunno what you mean. Was just a peck."

"Just a... Naoto, did you do it?"

"But of course," Naoto replied. "I can't deny I was curious."

"But what was it like!"

"I could describe it as no more than a peck. It was on my cheek, for the record."

"A peck? A peck?" Yosuke stood up suddenly, and the world reeled around him, partly from his panic and confusion, and partly from the blood rushing from his head.

"Yosuke-senpai?" Rise asked. "It's all right. We all kissed Senpai, or were kissed by him anyway. So we're all in the same place. Oh, but I wonder... does that mean we indirectly kissed everyone else too?"

Yosuke opened and closed his mouth, and then sat back down. He palmed his forehead and splayed his fingers through his hair, trying to calm down. The revelation that Yu had given him and only him much more than a peck was too much for him to process.

"Nah," said Kanji. "Senpai had a whole jug of mouthwash back there. He washed out real good every time."

"That much mouthwash can't be good for him," Naoto remarked. "But I suppose he'll be fine if it's just for the festival."

Yosuke nibbled his lower lip. So that's why the minty taste. It had faded from his tongue by now, and he couldn't help but feel disappointed about that. Maybe... he could visit the booth again later?

The door to the rooftop opened and, to everyone's surprise, Yu joined them.

"Hi," he said, breathlessly. It had to be breathlessly, Yosuke figured, after all that kissing. But then, if he'd only given everyone a peck of a kiss, he wouldn't need much breath for that. "They finally let me have a break."

"You..." Yosuke began.

Yu smiled at him, then addressed the rest of the group. "How's the festival?" He sat down between Yosuke and Rise.

"The haunted house wasn't scary," Yukiko said. "This boy kept following me around inside it. It was very uncomfortable."

"For him, you mean?" Rise said.

Yukiko's eyes glinted in the sunlight.

The group continued to talk about the festival, but Yosuke wasn't listening. The kissing booth wasn't supposed to mean anything. It was just a stupid school event, but now, now...

Now Yu was right next to him and Yosuke didn't know what to think. He found himself watching his mouth. His lips were kind of red, probably from kissing people all day. Had it really been just Yosuke, or were there others he'd kissed so deeply? Which of these scenarios was he more okay with?

Yu was his best friend, and best friends didn't kiss with tongue, right?

At some point during the conversation, Yu wet his lips with his tongue, and Yosuke found himself mimicking the action.

All of a sudden—or so it seemed to Yosuke—Rise was getting up, followed by the other underclassmen. "We gotta get back to our class's booth," Rise said with a dramatic sigh. "We're just doing a bake sale. It's so boring."

"I dunno, the cupcakes are hella cute," Kanji said. "You oughta come by and get one for Nanako-chan, Senpai."

"I will," Yu promised.

"I'll come with you and get one for Chie," Yukiko said.

"See you later, Senpai~~"

In the middle of his crisis, Yosuke now found himself alone with Yu. He wasn't anywhere near ready for that.

Though Yu didn't seem to be either. He was fidgeting with his fingers in his lap. The awkward silence lasted for some time. Finally, Yu spoke. "Yosuke? You've been awfully quiet."

"Why?" Yosuke blurted out. "Why was my kiss different?"

Yu's eyes widened. "It wasn't—" he began, but he saw the look on Yosuke's face and stopped attempting to deny it. His eyes darted away, and then back again. Finally, he mumbled, "...Why do you think?"

Yosuke opened and closed his mouth. "Me?"

Yu didn't answer.

"Me?" he repeated. "Of all those people... you really wanted to kiss me?"

Yu was blushing. Yosuke was pretty sure he'd never seen this before. It was flattering.

"That was my first kiss," Yosuke told him.

"It wasn't mine," Yu said.

"Well, yeah! You were kissing people all day!"

Yosuke laughed, and soon Yu was laughing too. The tension between them lessened into something more comfortable.

"I couldn't help it," Yu said. "I didn't want to kiss any of them, not really, but everyone had voted for me to man the booth, so... I didn't have a choice. And then you were there, and... I wanted something more."

"After the kiss you gave me, I kinda want something more too," Yosuke admitted.

Yu stared at him. "Really?"

Blushing, Yosuke set his hand conspicuously between them. Yu watched it, and like a wary feline, he slowly brought his own hand closer. Yosuke didn't pull his hand away. Finally Yu placed his hand on top, and Yosuke turned his hand so they were holding hands.

Yu's goofy smile after that was its own reward.

"You were my first kiss," Yosuke said. "And..."

"And?" Yu prompted.

"I think," Yosuke said, "I want you to be my second kiss, too."

As they closed the distance, Yosuke could only think: and third, and fourth, and fifth, and...

Author's notes:

I saw this prompt (where Yu mans a kissing booth but only deep kisses Yosuke, who finds out later & has feels) on the kink meme years ago and the idea stuck with me, so I guess this is also kind of a fill? I don't have a link to the original prompt anymore though.

Summary: Yu can't stop himself from daydreaming about something he can't have.

Yu didn't know when exactly he'd fallen for his best friend, or even how, but it had happened and there wasn't much help for him now. Perhaps the fact that he represented the Fool arcana had some significance. Only fools fell in love, after all, or so the saying went.

He and Yosuke weren't on a date. They were just friends having an after school snack at Souzai Daigaku.

"–and then she demanded to see the manager." Yosuke laughed. "It was like, 'Lady, don't you realize the manager is my dad?' Ahh, customers. Can't live without 'em."

Yu maintained the indulgent smile he always wore when listening to his best friend ramble on. He could half-listen to Yosuke talk all day like this. Half-listen, because a good portion of his mind was dedicated to his daydreams.

He could pretend. Pretend he was on a date.

How pathetic was that...? Yu held in the sigh trying to escape. Why did it have to be Yosuke? Why couldn't it have been that guy in glasses that hung out in the second floor hallway after class? Maybe it was because of all they'd been through in the TV World, or maybe it was because of how much neck that boy had. He always wore those v-necks. In fact he was wearing one now. Yu could imagine kissing the boy from his shoulder all the way up to his ear...

"Hey, partner," Yosuke said, tossing the remains of his steak skewer into the nearby garbage can. "You ready to go?"

Or maybe that was it. 'Partner.' Yu had misunderstood Yosuke's meaning back when he'd first used it and continued to think it might mean something more than simple friendship. Or at least, pretend it might mean something...

"Partner?"

Yu stirred in his seat, blinking back into the here and now. He nodded and pushed out of his seat. He and Yosuke began to walk down the central shopping district.

He could pretend it was a date, but... he couldn't hold Yosuke's hand. It was swinging at his side while they walked. Yosuke had once said that Yu seemed good with his hands, but Yosuke had long fingers of his own. They'd be good for playing piano, or maybe guitar. Yu imagined those fingers threading through his hair, maybe tugging just a little...

They arrived at the overlook. Yosuke leaned against the railing, resting his arms flat along the top. He looked out over the town. Yu pretended to do the same, but he was really watching Yosuke from the corner of his eye. The sunlight caught on his hair, making it seem lighter than its dyed hue. The wind blew in a gust, stirring up some of the fallen early autumn leaves. It was a scene right out of a romance movie. Yu could imagine Yosuke turning to him with a sudden, needy look. 'Kiss me,' he'd say.

And Yu would pretend to be all shy, then move in and kiss him long on the lips. They'd be warm and then, and then they'd pull apart and stare into each others eyes and...

"Yu?"

Just like that, almost! Yosuke's eyes were such a soft brown, they matched his hair perfectly. Yu smiled hopelessly at him. "Yeah?"

"Kiss me?"

Yu blinked at him several times, and then frowned. He was getting his fantasy mixed up with reality. "Huh?"

"K-kiss me, please," Yosuke stammered.

The puzzled look remained on Yu's face. He worked his jaw as he struggled to come up with a coherent response.

"I'm not stupid," Yosuke said. "I've seen the looks you give me when you think I'm not looking."

The shock had worn off, leaving Yu merely bewildered. His mind seemed to be chugging along at a snail's pace.

"Look," Yosuke said frankly, "if you're not gonna... I guess it's up to me."

Before Yu knew it, Yosuke stepped right into his personal space. Suddenly those lips that had looked so kissable earlier were coming right for him.

When they were there, pressed against his own, that's when Yu sighed, a long sigh full of all the relief he felt in that moment. It caused the kiss to break apart for a moment, but he was quick to draw Yosuke into a longer kiss, one that made Yosuke make a noise that sounded very close to a moan.

"There," Yosuke whispered less than an inch from his lips, so close that his next words brushed their lips together. "Was that so hard?"

"Yosuke, I..." Yu began, but Yosuke shushed him.

"It's all right," Yosuke said. "I've known for a while. That you're not just my best friend."

"It's... It's okay to want to kiss your best friend," Yu managed.

"Not the way I want to kiss." Yosuke's eyes were narrowed, focused entirely on Yu's mouth. There was a moment's hesitation, and then he closed the distance.

Their noses bumped and their teeth clashed, but it was okay, because Yosuke was so eager, it felt like it was out of a dream. "This is real, right?" Yu stopped to ask.

"I could pinch you if you'd like," Yosuke offered. "But..."

His hesitation only made Yu curious. "But what?"

"I might..." Yosuke paused again, his face turning a deeper shade of red than it already was. "I might... pinch your butt instead."

There was no way this was real.

"It's real," Yosuke assured him. "I like you, and... I don't know. It's a little frightening, but I've never felt this way about anyone before."

"Me neither!" Yu said. "That's why it was so hard to..."

"Sometimes," Yosuke said, "you just need to reach out and grab it."

Dream or not, Yosuke was asking for it. Yu put his arms around Yosuke and grabbed his ass with both hands. "Like this?" he breathed.

"I-I thought I was supposed to be the one pinching you!"

Despite his embarrassment, Yosuke didn't pull away, instead he squeezed his arms under Yu's so he could do exactly the same thing. It felt weird, having hands on the seat of his pants, but Yu was too deliriously happy about this turn of events to care.

"I like you," Yu was inspired to announce.

"Yeah," said Yosuke, smiling softly, shyly, back at him.

They kissed again, and when they separated, they stared into each other's eyes for quite some time. As the quiet moment turned into several quiet moments, Yu began to accept that it wasn't a dream. Yosuke was here, he was holding him and wanting him close. Yu knew they'd have a lot to talk about soon, a lot to figure out, but for now, he was just happy to enjoy the moment—happy that he no longer had to pretend.

Summary: Prompt from a prompt meme: Souyo - Reunion Kiss
Author's notes: This is a a crosspost from AO3ffnet, and tumblr.
It's a drabble that resulted from a tumblr prompt thing.
It's been quite a few years since I've been on an airplane (and I've never flown internationally) so apologies for any mistakes.

"We are beginning our descent. At this time, please ensure that all portable electronic devices are turned off and stowed. Please return all seats to the upright position and remain seated with the seat belt securely fastened. Thank you for flying with Japan Airlines."

Yu blinked out of his dozing, then yawned widely. He stretched in his seat, but not too much so as not to disturb the elderly woman sitting next to him. Kaede-san been a good companion to him on this 20-hour flight and he wouldn't ruin it now. He couldn't wait to be on the ground again, mostly because his legs were aching from the cramped space he'd been forced to keep them in.

He opened the window shutter that had been closed to allow him and Kaede-san to sleep without the sunlight blinding them. Outside the plane he could only see an expanse of clear blue sea. The beauty of the scene would have been more poignant if it had not been the same exact sight for the past 12 or so hours. The Pacific Ocean was a million times larger in reality than it looked on paper.

"Will anyone be waiting for you, Narukami-kun?" Kaede-san inquired.

"Oh... just a friend," Yu replied vaguely without looking away from the window.

"A dear friend?" Kaede-san pressed.

Yu smiled into his reflection outlined faintly in the window. "A good friend, yes," he answered softly, just loud enough to be heard over the incessant and dull thrum of the plane as it traveled. "I haven't seen him in over a year, so..."

"Ah," she said, nodding knowingly. "Time changes everyone. Why, just look how much my grandson grew in just a year!"

When she pulled out her photo album, Yu chuckled to himself. She'd shown him all the pictures before, hours and hours ago, but he had the patience to endure it. She was so proud of her family, it made him just a little jealous. While she rattled on about her grandchildren and their accomplishments, Yu began to think about other things.

He had been away from Japan for a whole year now. It was part of his training as a Shadow Operative, though he suspected this 'training' was simply a plot by Mitsuru-san to keep Akihiko-san out of trouble. Regardless of his superior's true intentions, he'd learned a great deal about the world. There were supernatural threats other than Shadows out there, and they weren't only in Japan.

Because of his constant traveling, he hadn't kept in contact with most of his friends (and calling had always been difficult for him, regardless). As a result, he didn't know the details on how everyone was doing. Had Yukiko taken over the inn? Had Chie made it through police academy? Was 'Risette' still a household name? Had Teddie matured in any way? Did Yosuke still dye his hair? He'd been wondering all of these things and more for the majority of the flight.

His smile grew wider without him even realizing it. Kaede-san thought it was in response to her amusing story about how her grandson had once eaten an entire package of diaper wipes, so she continued relating another anecdote.

He missed everyone, but soon he'd at least see Yosuke in person. Yu had called just last week to inform him that he was returning to Japan, and Yosuke had immediately volunteered to meet him at the airport. Yu hadn't mentioned needing anyone to accompany him. Yosuke's enthusiasm had been so amusing that Yu simply couldn't refuse.

'Yeah, we'll take the train to Tokyo Station and stop at the Wuck there—I bet you haven't had a good burger in forever!'

'I'd rather have some sushi,' Yu told him, and Yosuke quickly modified his plans to include that.

'All right, scratch the Wuck, then! There's this place I know that has designer sushi, you know, the good stuff, I just know you're gonna love it, partner!'

'You're spoiling me,' Yu protested with a short laugh.

'Ah, come on! I haven't seen you in forever! We're going to have a lot to catch up on.'

Yosuke hadn't been wrong about that. Although he'd meant it in regards to himself discovering everything Yu had been doing out of the country, Yu was infinitely curious about what his friend had been up to all this time. Yosuke lived near Tokyo, did that mean he was going to college there or something? Did he live on his own, or did he have a roommate or a girlfriend or something? A girlfriend... What if he was married? No, he'd definitely have told Yu if that had happened.

"Home, sweet home!" Kaede-san suddenly said.

She was leaning closer to him now, straining at her seatbelt to look out the window. Land had come into sight. Since Narita International Airport wasn't all that far inland, it wouldn't be long now before the plane landed.

"Those cars look like my grandson's toys," she remarked.

"They do," Yu agreed. From this high in the sky, even the tallest buildings and trees were like toothpicks. The whole expanse of roads, hills, and the pockets of civilization below looked like a very intricate model.

The airport came into sight, evident by all the planes surrounding their terminals. Lower and lower the plane descended, and Yu instinctively braced himself when it finally landed on the runway. It wasn't as bumpy as he'd expected, and soon enough the plane was taxiing towards its gate.

Some time later, Yu was helping Kaede-san take her luggage out from the overhead compartment, then taking out his own and following everyone else out of the plane. He considered turning on his phone and texting Yosuke to let him know he was off the plane, but he still had to go through check-in and customs; stopping to take out his phone in the middle of the hurried crowd around him didn't seem like the best idea.

The passport check went over without a hitch, and before he knew it, Yu was finally at the arrival gate. Yosuke had said he'd meet him here, and Yu worried for a moment before spotting him. Being as tall as he was had its advantages.

Yosuke was leaning against a wall, looking down at his phone with a slight frown on his face. One question was answered: Yosuke still dyed his hair, but it seemed to be a somewhat more amber hue than Yu remembered. He was dressed casually in an orange shirt with a band's logo on it. Still orange, huh? Yu found himself smiling at the sight.

A moment later Yosuke lifted his head to scan the new arrivals and his eyes caught Yu's. Suddenly it seemed like they were the only two people in the area.

Yu took a few steps forward and then opened his arms to envelop his friend in a hug.

To his surprise, Yosuke leaped right into him, the momentum almost knocking him right off his feet. Before Yu knew it, warm lips were pressed against his own.

The kiss lasted only a few seconds, but felt like at least twenty. Yu could hardly register that it had happened. Yosuke, of all people, kissing him in front of hundreds of strangers—it was just inconceivable.

As expected, Yosuke remembered himself a moment later. He drew away, stammering a quick, "S-sorry, I just, I missed you... s-so I..."

Yu shook his head, having none of that, and pulled Yosuke back into his arms. This time the kiss lasted well over twenty seconds. When he drew away, he stared into Yosuke's fawn-colored eyes for even longer than that.

At least, until he became aware that there was an audience. Kaede-san was standing by with her family. With a sly smile on her weathered face, she whispered to her son, "They seem to be very good friends."

While Yosuke was stuttering and turning a deep shade of red, Yu nodded at her. Then he grabbed Yosuke's hand with one hand and his luggage with the other and marched Yosuke right down the hall, seeking someplace a little more secluded. They really needed to catch up.
